I find it quite appalling that I can now use the phrase "back in my day" unironically in conversation.  It's humbling in some way to have to explain to people what 8-track was, or mimeograph machines, or - gasp - a world without video games.

I'm not grownup, am I?  I was sure I would see it coming!

But sometimes, I just have to let criticism fly, even if it makes the young whippersnappers roll their eyes - (Yes, I am talking to YOU!)

Advance apologies to anyone this actually describes, but, then, we've established that I am un-hip and out-of-touch...

I HATE webpages that have tiny, tiny text.  I HATE livejournals that have eye-searing color combinations, especially lightish text on darkish backgrounds - and MOST especially not-so-lightish text on BLACK backgrounds!

So you can imagine how I feel when I get tiny, tiny text, a black background, and dark gray print.

People, I'm sure you worked very hard on your post, or your recap, or your story, etcetera.  I really WANT to read it, which is why I've sought out your journal.  WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME VIA MY EYEBALLS??!!!???  WHY??!!???

Seriously - BLACK text on WHITE, NAVY text on CREAM, DARK GRAY text on EGGSHELL, und so weiter, mmmkay?  And all in a font that your average *cough*Hmpf*cough*-year-old can decipher without breaking out the bifocals.

(Not that I wear bifocals.)

Ahem.  Thanks for letting me get that out.

Turn off that trashy music!  Get a haircut!  And get off my lawn!

Young people today, sheesh!

Sing it sister! Don't forget Eat your vegetables!
Pull up your pants! and "I had to walk ten miles in the snow, uphill, to get to school!"

Sigh. Glad to hear it isn't just me. When I teach, my cultural literacy is increasingly useless. None of them knew of "Beyond the Pale" "Catywampus" "The Berlin Wall Falling" or even watch TV!
OY!
Bleh.
